Genuine SURE FOOT Soft Pads are color-coded with a blue top on one side and beige foam on the other. Either side can be used.

Soft Pads are the most comfortable Pad in the SURE FOOT line. They are also the most unstable because they have the most “give.” Not only does the Soft Pad yield to the weight of the horse quickly, it also gives laterally (side-to-side), allowing the horse to sink into the Pad rapidly. This is unlike the Hard Pad which “gives” very slowly.

Using the Soft Pad is like presenting the horse with a pair of bedroom slippers -- comfort is acknowledged immediately. However, they are not a good choice for nervous, panicky, or anxious horses who need something more secure and ground-like to start out with, such as the Hard Pad or Physiopad.

In general, horses should be comfortable with Hard or Firm Pads before progressing to Soft Pads. On the other hand, if your horse appears to be in discomfort from sore hooves or joints -- or is walking with apparent pain (not from soft tissue injury) -- then you may want to quickly progress to Soft. Be sure to consult with your veterinarian if your horse appears to be in pain.

Soft Pads are not recommended for soft tissue injuries due to the amount of instability these Pads offer. If you suspect your horse has a soft tissue injury, do not use any SURE FOOT Pads on that limb. Please work with your veterinarian to determine the nature of the injury.

Using Your Pads

Please familiarize yourself with the SURE FOOT Equine Stability Program® before using SURE FOOT Pads. We highly recommend watching the Quick Start Guide prior to offering Pads to your horse for the first time. Also check out the illustrated SURE FOOT Equine Stability Program Workbook which can be taken to the barn!

  • Use caution when first offering - make sure your horse is comfortable with them.
  • Start by having your horse in an open space, like an enclosed arena.
  • Keep your horse on a lead rope when using Pads, rather than cross ties.
  • Position the Pads with your foot - keep hands away from hooves.
  • Allow your horse to walk off the Pads if he needs to move.
  • Never leave your horse unattended while using the Pads.

Always check with your veterinarian before using the Pads for any specific conditions or unsoundness.

Note: SURE FOOT Equine Balance Pads are a tool to benefit your horse. Though durable, just like your other equipment they will show wear and tear over time. Nicks, tears, and cuts are considered normal and do not alter the effect of the Pads in any way.

Caring For Your Pads

Before using your SURE FOOT Pads for the first time, rub a small amount of dirt or footing on the colored surface. This will prevent them from sticking together or from sticking to the horse’s hoof during the initial use.

If needed, Pads can be cleaned with a sponge and warm water.

Store your SURE FOOT Pads where rodents can't get to them. When not using the Pads, please don't leave them:

  • In a closed vehicle (like a car or trailer)
  • Exposed to excessive heat
  • Out in prolonged sunlight

Simply - if you wouldn’t leave your dog there, don’t leave your Pads there.
