Advanced Pods are the most challenging surface in the entire SURE FOOT Equine Stability Program

Each Pod is a 7-inch diameter, half-round air-filled dome with nubs on the surface. Since they are an advanced surface, the horse must be familiar with and comfortable standing on SURE FOOT Pads before attempting Pods. Rarely do horses progress to Pods in their first SURE FOOT session. Once ready for the challenge though, Pods are a great way to see how a horse habitually weights his hooves while also allowing him to explore new possibilities.

Pods provide information on the habitual loading of each hoof, such as medial vs lateral (inside vs outside) and toe vs heel (front vs back). Unlevel loading may cause Pods to roll out from under a hoof. Therefore, use caution when first offering them to a horse to see how he loads one hoof before adding more Pods.

Pods can be used in front as well as behind and are typically used two at a time. Pods are often used in combination with Pads: for example, Slants under both hind hooves and Pods under both front hooves. But Pods can also be used under all four hooves if two pair are purchased and the horse is ready for this level of challenge.

To get started with Pods, target the hoof to the third row of nubs from the flat bottom to center the hoof. As you lower the hoof, allow the horse to adjust placing his hoof where he is comfortable, even if that is not on the Pod. When standing on the Pod, the air-filled dome pushes upward into the horse’s hoof.

Using Your Pods

You and your horse should be quite familiar with the SURE FOOT Equine Stability Program before using Advanced Pods. Do not start horses on Advanced Pods that are not already comfortable with the standard SURE FOOT Equine Balance Pads.

Always check with your veterinarian before using the Pods for any specific conditions or unsoundness.

Caring For Your Pods

If needed, Pods can be cleaned with a sponge and warm water.

Store your SURE FOOT Pods where rodents can't get to them. When not using the Pods, please don't leave them:

  • In a closed vehicle (like a car or trailer)
  • Exposed to excessive heat
  • Out in prolonged sunlight

Simply - if you wouldn’t leave your dog there, don’t leave your Pods there.
